How Google decides who shows up nearby
Google says local results are mainly based on three things. It also says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking, so we never sell one. We work on what you control. Read Google's explanation.
Relevance
How well your profile matches what the person typed.
What you control. Complete, specific details: the right primary category, your services, your hours and a description that says what you actually do.
Distance
How far you are from the person searching.
What you control. A correct address, or a correct service area if you work at customers' homes. Distance itself you cannot change, but you can stop it counting against you.
Prominence
How well known your business is.
What you control. Reviews and replies, listings that agree across the web, and links from other sites. This is the slow one, and the one competitors cannot copy overnight.
Toronto is many searches, not one
Nobody in Scarborough searches the way someone in Etobicoke does. Customers search by neighbourhood, and the six former cities that joined to make Toronto still shape how people say where they are.
If you go to your customers, set your service area instead of showing an address. Google allows up to 20 service areas, and a service-area business gets one profile for the whole area it serves. If you do not serve customers at your address, Google says to remove it.
The Toronto listing audit sheet
These are the nine things we check on every Toronto listing. Print it, or ask for the free report and we will fill it in for you.
| Check | What right looks like | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number | A local 416, 647 or 437 number, the same everywhere. | A mismatched or non-local number makes a listing look unsure. |
| Business name | Exactly as it appears on your sign and invoices. | Name variants split your reviews and your listings. |
| Address or service area | A street address if customers visit you. A service area, with the address hidden, if you go to them. | Google says to remove the address if you do not serve customers there. |
| Hours | Regular hours, holiday hours and after-hours emergency wording. | Wrong hours send customers to the next listing. |
| Primary category | The one that matches what customers search, not the broadest one. | Category is a main part of relevance. |
| Website link | The page that matches the service, not only the home page. | It sends the visitor to an answer, not a menu. |
| Photos | Real photos of the work, the team and the vehicle or storefront. | Complete profiles are more likely to appear. |
| Reviews and replies | Every review answered, kindly and briefly. | Replies show the next customer someone is listening. |
| Duplicates | One profile per business, with old and moved listings merged or removed. | A duplicate competes with your own profile. |
We also check the directories Toronto customers and AI assistants lean on most: Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Yellow Pages, Canada411, Facebook and the Better Business Bureau.
The affordable way to stop being invisible
If you are not on the directories, you are not on the map. And if you are not on the map, AI assistants have little to recommend. That is true whether or not you run ads or pay for SEO today, which is why Get Found is the product we call a must-have.
We set up your profile and listings, correct what disagrees, and keep it right every month. You get a monthly note of what changed. Get Found local SEO is not a full SEO retainer: content, links and ads are scoped separately, and we say so before you pay.

How much does local SEO cost in Toronto?
Get Found is $99 a month for one location, or $990 a year, in US dollars, with free setup and no contract. It is local search and Maps visibility, not a full SEO retainer. If you also need content, links or ads, we scope that separately and tell you the price first.
Is the visibility report really free?
Yes. The free local visibility report shows how your business appears across Google, maps and directories, and where the published details disagree. It is human-reviewed, you keep it whether or not you hire us, and it needs no payment.
Do I need a Toronto street address to show up in Toronto?
No. A business that visits customers can list a service area instead and hide its address. Google lets you set up to 20 service areas, and a service-area business can have only one profile for the whole area it serves.
Can you promise a number one ranking on Google Maps?
No, and nobody honest can. Google states that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. What we do is make your business complete, accurate and consistent everywhere, which is what makes a profile eligible to rank.
How long does local SEO take to work in Toronto?
Corrections to listings and your profile can show within days or a few weeks. Reviews and prominence build over months. We report what changed each month so you can see the work, and our guide to how long local SEO takes sets realistic milestones.
Do you work outside Toronto, in Mississauga, Brampton or Vaughan?
Yes. We work with service businesses across the Greater Toronto Area and the rest of Canada and the United States. A service-area profile can cover several nearby cities at once.
Is this a good fit if I already run Google Ads?
It is the foundation under ads. Every ad that sends someone to search for you lands on your Maps profile and your listings first. If those are wrong, you pay to send people to an unsure business.
